Two Lines At The End Ruined The Entire Film

Review of Animals (2026) by sophiemac: 👎 4.0/10

Throughout this film I thought it was a fairly middle of the road kidnap movie that was going slowly downhill with a couple of incongruous storylines. Then it picked up in the final sequence of the kidnap and I thought they might just have saved the whole thing. But then at the end they added two things that properly finished it off. The first I can't name without adding a total spoiler, so I'm not naming it. The second is the couple of lines about ICE and which, for me, killed the film stone dead. This film is like eating a meal that's not great, but it'll do to fill you up, so you keep eating. But just as you swallow the last mouthful the person who cooked it tells you it's been in their fridge for a week already. Now, maybe they were forced to add those lines and I'd be really interested to hear if that was the case. But if there was ever a bad ending to a film that was truly it. And it surprises me that people like Affleck and Damon think that's fine by them.

If those lines hadn't been spoken I'd probably have given this 6/10. Again, I neither recommend or not recommend.
