Nuclear Powerful Drama

Review of The China Syndrome (1979) by nezzkobdamned: 👍 8.8/10

The China Syndrome is superb. The final 10 minutes are full of suspense, dread, and horror as everything the film had built up to culminates in an intense standoff that threatens to literally go nuclear.

Jack Lemmon should have won an Oscar for his performance. It still amazes me how varied his skill set was, and this film further solidified him as my favourite actor.

It's also a film that feels quite timely when the media and big business are concerned. The flouting of rule-bending loopholes and the skewed takes on ethics still exist as problems today. It really isn't that hard to believe that some people would ignore a glaring issue that could have catastrophic consequences just because it might cost them money.
