Buckle up! ๐Ÿ‘ป

Review of Casper (1995) by kcookandcatsco: ๐Ÿ‘Ž 3.0/10

I had wondered, 'Does this movie hold up?' remembering it as okay/fine/kind-of-bad-maybe movie from my youth (my family owned this on big clamshell VHS, and I probably saw it 40 or 50 times in my youf).

Hoo, boy!

As it turns out, this is actually a bad movie!

There are signs almost right away.

My BlueSky review was 46 posts long. 46 posts for a kids movie about a cartoon ghost. I got way into this one.

It sucks! I'll stick to the broad strokes for this review. What's the big-picture capital-P Problem with this movie, you ask?

Great question, and I've got a great answer: Casper is an incel creep. That's the whole deal.

Casper positively cannot keep it together. He's like a Tex Avery wolf, just pulling faces and making noises and raising his eyebrows, or turning himself into pillows (or whatever) to creep closer to Kat.

Casper's a real creep. Let's look at some more examples. He's all-creep, all the time.

Quit Creepin', Casper!

Alas, he never quits creepin', nor is he ever punished or held accountable for being a little incel freak. He gets to kiss the girl and dance in the air in a total ripoff of Beetlejuice.

Oh, here's an unintentionally-hilarious moment that demonstrates what I mean about Casper just being an antisocial, aggressive, hostile, moody little bitch.

Carrigan technically dies falling out of the car off a cliff moments after that, but it doesn't negate the fact that the vial/phial fell, like, forty or fifty feet onto rocks and was totally fine, so Casper giving Kat shit for holding it in her hands in the lab is just him being a pushy prick.

Blech. I hate so much about this movie. I won't bore you further with my lengthy BlueSky review, but if you're interested, it's linked using the Blog Button, which will warp you to the first post. This was awful, really awful. Don't show this to your kids, please. It will teach them fucked-up things about boys/girls and relationships. No, thank you! ๐Ÿคฎ

We're all better than this movie. I thought I had nostalgia and love for it, and it turns out, it's a piece of shit and I should've always hated it. That's okay! My childhood isn't less valid (actually, bad example; my childhood was bullshit) just because this thing I had some affection for turns out, in the cold, hard light of day, to be absolute dreck and offensive, creepy, sleazy trash.

It's fine! But woof, Casper: The Friendly Ghost (of a Dead 12yo Boy) (1995) ain't it ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†”๏ธ
