Sinners is a win.

Review of Sinners (2025) by tectash: 👍 9.0/10

From Tusk Till Dawn vibes with blues music and Louisiana atmosphere is just what the doctor ordered. Michael B Jordan gives a layered performance as multiple characters. The atmosphere is strong only heightened by the cinematography. Each character leaves an impact even if they are only in it briefly. Brace yourselves folks we have a new great film on our hands as well as a great vampire film to add next to the classics.

It is a film that has more layers to it than you think. I always tell people after finishing it chew on it and you will appreciate it more. I love how deliberate the film is. This movie feels like From Dusk Till Dawn, The color purple and a dash of Django Unchained while still having it's own identity.

It can not be understated on how good the chemistry is among the cast. Ryan Coogler has the sentimental aspect to a film maker I feel is kind of a lost art these days. It reminds me of Spielberg where the emotional moments are earned and truly hit. This film is a genre mashup. It tackles so many genres at once. What they add to vampire lore is refreshing and is one of the first vampire movies to actually make it believable on why you would invite them in. The persuasion is one of the best elements of the film. Characters even if given little screen time give impact and are memorable.

Ludwig Goransson has proven to be one of the best composers working in the film industry today. The original score to this delivers an immersive experience only captured by the great films. My favorite film of 2025 so far and it is hard to see that changing. Combining art and a film you want to revisit frequently is a tough task but this film did it. Come award season I am willing to bet this film will rack up award nominations as it excels. Do not miss.

Now this is my spoiler part for the ending. The ending I find to be touching as well as heartwarming. However something I do not hear many people talk about that I caught is the irony of Mary and Stack. What irony is that you ask? Mary and Stack can be open about being an interracial couple which of course back in those days you could not be as open about that like current day. They can be open because they have both turned into vampires, but since they are vampires they are still restricted by being stuck in the shadows. A bittersweet end and representation of the romance. That to me is in true vampire fashion. Well done!
