What is more lifeless the cgi or the script?

Review of Green Lantern (2011) by tectash: 👎 3.0/10

You guys ever see the movie Top Gun? Take everything good or enduring about Top Gun out and apply it to this film. I am fine with drawing inspiration from other things but when you do it, you need to structure it properly. CGI that looks more dated and phony than movies that predate it. How does the CGI in Star Wars prequels look better than a movie that was released a decade after it?

Plot meanders and is so incomprehensible a major character dies and you forget about it as you are watching it. The only reason I am remembering now is because I am actively thinking about it as I type my review. Our main hero lacks any sort of redeeming traits, likeability or any sort of charm. This makes the film suffer because if we are going to get invested into a character's training we have to sympathize with them and be compelled on some level.

On top of not being invested the training segments feel straight ripped off from other films. Which see how it works? If you do not structure it properly I only see the cliché where as if it is done properly it helps sooth the cliché.

This movie while unintentionally funny at parts does not have the vibrant energy like Batman & Robin does. Movies with really bad green screen and CGI lack the charm of actually built sets. Even a bad practical effect or set has charm, there is not a charm to bad CGI.

I think people can take hot shots more seriously than this, and this is sad because that is a comedy. If you have missed this one, you are walking the right path. Avoid it.
